India is one-step closer to having its own GPS (Global positioning system) after the successful deployment of Indian Regional navigation Satellite system (IRNSS) 1B in orbit.
The satellite was launched on Friday from Sriharikota at 5:14 pm according to Times of India and the satellite was in orbit after one minute.
According to Indian television, this is the 25th Polar Satellite launch vehicle mission by India previously India deployed IRNSS 1A by the same configuration.
IRNSS claims that it will be able to provide the facility to both civil and defense after all the seven satellites ar placed in orbits.
Around 15 satellite ranging and monitoring facilities are placed across country for the said reason.
India plan to launch IRNSS 1C and IRNSS 1D in the final half of 2014 and the entire constellation of seven satellites by 2016.
Around 1600 crore are being utilized for the IRNSS constellation system. The IRNSS system will provide global positioning system facility to Indian civilians and encrypted surveillance capability to Indian military, stated K Raghu.
